When the UFC came to Fairfax this past April, it did not showcase any local fighters on the card. The Promoters at Strike Off Fighting Championships have taken it upon themselves to make sure not only that local fighters have an avenue to break into the UFC ranks the next time they come around, but also to convince the big show to come to Virginia more than once every two and a half years, as it has since 2010.

It’s funny how a couple of months can change your perspective. In April, I started writing a piece on the sad state of Pro MMA in our state. I was going to write on what were the barriers to entry for organizations to come in and put on Pro shows in a state that doesn’t really care much for sports outside of college athletics, NASCAR, and the love/hate of the closest Pro Football team we have, the Washington Redskins.
