Titans of the Cage 28 is a go for Saturday Night, September 21st. The APEX Center , in Wytheville, will contain the 12 MMA bouts that will be held as a part of this event. Five of the TOC titles will be on the line, as a number of area and regional prospects will collide for the gold. The weigh-ins for the event were held on Friday, September 20th, at Italian Garden in Wytheville, VA.
In the main event, Tyler “Ace” Cardwell (5-0) will look to defend his Light Heavyweight title against Antwon “Rumble Savage” Curtis (4-3). Cardwell, who trains out of Ring Combat Sports, in Wytheville, will face his toughest competition to date, in Curtis, who carries with him a 100% finish rate. The Roanoke native and Star City Savage, has been active in other combat sports, but has not participated in an MMA bout in 17 months.
The co-main features undefeated 19-year old, “Razor” Robbie Ring (4-0) putting his Bantamweight belt on the line against North Carolina’s Adrian Guijoza (3-1). Ring, is another Ring Combat Sports fighter on the ticket. Having fought his first three fights under the TOC banner, Robbie branched out in July and got a very quick submission victory at Showcase MMA in Tennessee, so he’ll look to keep that momentum going. This bout appeared to be set to match up two undefeated young fighters, however, Guijoza suffered a TKO loss at Mix It Up Sports, in August. Ring will employ a drastic height and reach advantage in this bout.
The staredown of the night went to the competitors in the Welterweight title feature fight. People had time to come into Italian Garden, order their meal, eat it and pay for it, prior to Kaine Tomlinson, Jr. (2-0) and Jacob Lamb (5-0) taking their eyes off of each other in the face-off. In what could be fight of the night, the junior Tomlinson definitely has his eyes set on that shiny gold belt of Lamb’s. The Champ, who fights out of Team Phoenix, in Greensboro, NC, plans on keeping it in the Tar Heel State, however.
The ladies Flyweight title will be on the line, as the very exiting Kathy Hatfield (4-1) clashes with Tasha Hewitt (4-1). West Virginia bragging rights will be on the line as well, as these two proud West Virginians will vie for the vacant flyweight title. Hatfield always bring a ferocious pace that is very fun to watch. Hewitt is coming off a two-year layoff and will be looking to shake off the rust and get right back at it.
The Featherweight belt will also be on the line as defending champion Dylan Smith (4-4) receives a last minute replacement in the form of Ring Combat Sports fighter, Jacob Catron (1-1). Smith will enjoy a major experience edge, but it was said that when Smith’s original opponent dropped, 19-year old Catron jumped at the opportunity.
Another interesting fight will be a battle of TOC Hall of Famers, as Josh Cook (6-11), coming off his win at Spartyka 40, will take on fellow Hall of Famer and former TOC Lightweight Champ, Micah Sheffey (13-7). Sheffey, having lost his last 3 bouts will look to rebound and Cook will look to make it two in a row, in this Lightweight bout.
Proudly, all fighters made weight for this event. You can see the entire fight card on the TOC 28 event page, at Tapology. Weigh-in results are included there. The event will start at 6:00 PM EST. MMA in VA will attempt to provide live results updates, as we will be in attendance at the APEX Center.
