On Tap: Strike Off 7

by Felix Falcon

Strike Off FC will return to action on Saturday, March 26th, at the Ernst Cultural Center in Annandale, VA. As it stands, the card will showcase 12 pro fights. While the largest contingent of fighters will be local, there will be competitors present from Florida, North Carolina, Maryland, and D.C.

The Main Event of the evening will include our #1 ranked Flyweight, Gold Medal Grappling’s Samir Farid (5-1), against Florida fighter, Cleveland McLean (4-4). Farid is coming off a highlight reel head kick KO finish at last October’s Strike Off 6 event. A win here would further solidify him as a big contender against anyone in the regional 125 pound division. McLean will be coming in with the most cage experience out of all competitors on the card with eight bouts to his name. After a solid 2015, where he ended up going 3-1, McLean looks to get back to a winning record with a win over Farid.

The Co-Main Event will include our #4 ranked Featherweight, MMA Institute’s Mike Lawrence (3-0), against Capital MMA’s Jonathan Vinyard (2-3). Although both of these fighters have relatively short records at the pro level, they have been staples of the local scene for years, with a total of 27 combined amateur fights between them dating back to 2010. With that level of experience, this fight will be a fun stylistic matchup, with Lawrence being the more polished striker of the two and Vinyard the better grappler.

Rounding out the card are well known regional names like Willie Floyd, Alan Stephenson, Piankhi Zimmerman, Joshua Peters, and Dusty Shaw. While the card is pretty heavy on debuting or relatively inexperienced fighters at the pro level (17 fighters have less than 5 pro fights), it is still matched up pretty evenly and should provide for an exciting night of fights.

For tickets and information, make sure to go to strikeoff.com and check in with the promotion on their Facebook page for further details about the event. As always, you can go to the Strike Off 7 Tapology event page to check out the up-to-date lineup and make your predictions.

MMA in VA’s “Sleeper Fight Picks”

(Fights outside the top two that have the potential to be exciting regardless of records or order in the line up)

Ryan MacDonald: Ardit Hysa vs. Anthony Tisdale - This fight will feature two fighters who have never taken the easy road in their young careers.  Both Hysa and Tisdale have accepted fights against some of the toughest pros in the Region.  These two North Carolinians will now get the opportunity to go toe to toe for State bragging rights and the opportunity to climb the Strike Off ladder.  Look for a high paced fight with plenty of fisticuffs.

Felix Falcon: Piankhi Zimmerman vs. John Mosley - A fun styles match up between a good striker in Zimmerman and a good wrestler in Mosley. Zimmerman’s striking garnered him a 1st rd KO win over Kyle Staten at Strike Off 6, while Mosley slammed his opponent, Bubba Williams, multiple times before getting a rear naked choke win at Strike Off 5.
