Odyssey Fights: Round One Weigh-in Results, New Main Event Named

by Ryan MacDonald

Maryland based Odyssey Fights will make their debut in the River City, Richmond, VA, Saturday night, June 20th.  Weigh-ins were held at Hooters on Broad Street, Friday evening, and saw 17 of the 18 fighters successfully make weight.  The fight card dwindled a bit as 3 fights fell off late in the week, leaving 9 fights on the all- professional card.  One of the fights that fell off was the Main Event, which was set to be a rematch between TUF Season 21 contestant, Steve Montgomery and Anthony Lemon, who Montgomery defeated in 2013.  Montgomery received a call, mere hours before weigh-ins, that he was being placed on the UFC Fight Night: Machida v. Romero card, June 27th in Florida.

Taking the place atop the fight bill will be the Welterweight meeting between Disciple MMA’s Kenny Gaudreau and Roanoke’s Nicholas Bleser.  This will be the second fight, for Gaudreau, at Welterweight since he moved up a weight class back in April.  Bleser will be appearing in his 20th pro fight and holds a 12-fight advantage over Gaudreau, in the experience department.

Along with a new Main Event comes a new Co-Main Event.  American Top Team’s JD Domengeaux will look to make it 4 in a row and 5 out of his last 6 as he takes on North Carolina’s John Bryant. Domengeaux defeated Bryant, back in February, for the Middleweight Title at Rings of Dreams 15.  Now, the two combatants will square off in a Welterweight tilt.  Domengeaux’s last four wins have come via first round stoppages.

All fighters made weight, with the exception of Heavyweight, John Calloway.  Calloway weighed in at 267 lbs., one pound over the allowable limit.  Calloway will be making his Pro Debut against 50-year old, Tony Horn, of Crossroads MMA.

The fights will be broadcast on GFL.tv, from the Greater Richmond Convention Center, beginning at 7:00 PM EST.
